Doubt

I haven't written all week. I'd like to use work as an excuse, but I work 5 days a week, regardless...I guess it is just that time in my life, where I get rejections back, and read about a bunch of agents, and wonder if I'm really wasting my time.

Don't get me wrong, I love to write. I love to plan novels and discover characters, and know them so intimiately, it's like they are alive.

But then there are times where I wonder if I should even be querying my novel. Will anyone like it? How do I know if anyone (besides my friends) will actually want to read it and keep reading it once they start? Should I start another project and hope that does better with queries? There are just so many unknowns. So many pitfalls. I didn't think I was being "writerly depressed," but this post definitely sounds like it, huh?

Point is, I haven't met a single goal in a week. Will I ever be able to sit down and write everyday? If not, how will I become a fulltime writer (if anything ever gets A. an agent and B. sold)...

  1. I had a comment written, clicked the wrong thing and *poof* gone.
This is the gist of it that I can recall. (Yes, my memory is THAT bad.)
    :D
Everyone has weeks like that. When that happens to me, I let myself feel crappy for a bit, then tell myself to buck up and get back to work. Helps more often than not. :)

  2. Surprisingly, I went for a power walk (even when I didn't want to)and now I'm feeling a little better about things.

  3. Yay! Walks can be great for that.

  4. I'm a sporadic writer. There are weeks where I write every day, and then weeks can go by without me writing at all. I just take it all in stride. I'm not one of those 'write everyday' writers. Personally, you should write when you write, and don't write when you don't write, oh, and don't stress about not writing. For me, at least, the words flow when they flow and I've learned to be content with that fact of life.

Lastly, not every writer/author writes every day. I read the bio of one author and she said her debut novel took her years to write because weeks would go by where she would not write a single word. I found inspiration in 'that' since she eventually wrote the novel and was published. : )
